: I would like to start this text with good news. Not long ago, sales of the Samsung i9100 Galaxy S II crossed the five million mark. An excellent indicator, the model is very popular and leads in its class, occupying the highest position among the most functional Android communicators.

The Korean company announced another, similar model. But mostly they are united only by design. Inside, these are different devices, seriously different from each other. Samsung Galaxy R, which was previously known as Galaxy Z, received the i9103 index and the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform. In addition, there is a different type of screen, and the diagonal is slightly smaller. In addition, the device has a 5-megapixel camera, lower video quality, no NFC chip, and less built-in memory. But the price tag is more modest - 25,000 rubles.

Appearance

The design of the Samsung Galaxy R is very similar to the original. If you look at the phone from the front, you won’t be able to understand how one device differs from another. The only detail that distinguishes their front panels is the mechanical button. On the Samsung Galaxy R it has an elongated shape, while on the flagship it is more like a rectangular one.

The phone body is gray, a dark shade that fits well with the appearance of a business person. However, young buyers will not be upset by the design; it looks neutral and does not evoke negative emotions. Although there is no originality here. And she is missing. I think it would be interesting to see new ideas on such an experimental model.

The monoblock is large: 125x66x9.5 mm, weight 135 g. The phone is noticeably thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S II, which has a very thin body for its impressive dimensions. The weight has also increased, the difference is noticeable.

If you like more massive products, then the Galaxy R will be just right. The shape of the back cover has changed and has become more traditional.

The device fits well in the hand, but it’s worth considering that fans of large devices will like this device. It is wide and you shouldn’t count on any special comfort. The smartphone fits into clothing pockets without any problems, it is convenient in everyday life and does not cause any trouble.

On the front panel there are light and proximity sensors, and there is also a camera for video calls. Under the decorative mesh made of black plastic is a speaker.

Below the screen there is a block of keys. There is a rectangular mechanical button in the center. It is large, with pronounced sides, and is comfortable to press. It performs the function of returning to the desktop. If you hold it down for a few seconds, the screen will display a list of running applications. There are two buttons on either side of it. On the left is the “Menu” key, on the right – “Back”. They are touch sensitive and backlit. You can configure the operating mode, enable or disable this function. The keys are convenient to use - there is enough free space, it is impossible to make a mistake when pressing them.

A small microphone hole is visible at the bottom end. In the center there is a microUSB port to which a cable or charger is connected.

At the top there is a standard 3.5 mm jack.

On the left side there is a volume button. It is small, has a fairly tight and small stroke.

There is a screen lock key on the right side of the smartphone. She turns the device off and on.

Glossy gray plastic occupies small areas on the rear panel and can be seen at the top and bottom. It also extends onto the side surfaces of the removable part of the body. The 5-megapixel camera lens is located in the center, next to which there is an LED flash. The ringer speaker holes are located at the bottom, these are 2 small slots.

By prying the part by the small recess on the upper end, you can gain access to the battery. The battery blocks access not only to the SIM card, but also to the microSD drive, which is inconvenient. You need to reboot your phone every time if you need to replace the card.

Platform

The Samsung Galaxy R uses Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. Dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor with a frequency of 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, and support for microSD memory cards up to 32 GB. In testing, we used different drives from 8 to 32 GB, and the sample worked with them without any complaints. Many people are interested in what the practical benefits of this or that solution are. Tegra 2 is already familiar from other devices; it first appeared in, which we have already talked about. A direct comparison of two smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Galaxy R, showed that the former is slightly faster. This is only felt when directly comparing devices, when the milliseconds it takes to respond when opening an application are noticeable. The results of synthetic tests can be seen in the screenshots.

Screen

The screen diagonal of the Samsung Galaxy R is 4.19”. The resolution remains the same, it is standard for Android devices 480x800 pixels, up to 16 million colors are displayed. A capacitive screen with multi-touch cannot be any other way. Here, another type of display, SuperAMOLED Plus, has given way to Super Clear LCD. What is the difference? The first type has more burning and unnatural colors; black looks perfect. In addition, it should have lower power consumption. Samsung Galaxy R has more natural shades and more brightness margin.

There is both automatic and manual adjustment of the backlight brightness level. The screen is protected from scratches by fiberglass. There is also another name - mineral glass. But it is worth considering that this is not the same material that is used in watches, but is less durable. Gorilla Glass has proven its effectiveness and is widely used in many modern high-end devices. In order to evaluate the screens, I offer several frames for comparison. The phones are in the following order, from left to right: Samsung Galaxy R, Samsung Galaxy S II and regular .

Interface

The proprietary TouchWiz 4 shell is used as the shell. The user has 7 desktops available to which he can add various elements at his discretion. To add a new shortcut, widget or folder to the screen, just hold your finger on the display for a few seconds. An additional menu will open at the bottom, where you can select the type of element you need. First of all, widgets are of interest. Their number has increased and they have become more diverse. Just touch the icon with your finger and drag it onto the screen. The area that this widget will occupy will be highlighted there. One work area can have several widgets, depending on their size.

The following widgets are available: YouTube, Vlingo, Power Management, Weather Clock, Stock mini, News, Voice Translator, Tips, Post it, Locator, Place Rating, Search, News and Weather, Photo Frame, Mail, Calendar, Buddies now, Bookmark, Market , Program Monitor, Dual Clock, Days, Clock. Many of them are standard for Android 2.3.

The image is set to fill the entire screen as a design. These can be “live” wallpapers (a choice of 6 such animated images), as well as static elements. Now the background image is displayed not only on desktops, but also in the phone menu itself, where application icons are located.

In standby mode, information about new events is displayed on the screen. Missed calls and unread messages are displayed in the form of small squares located on different sides of the display. By pulling one of them, you can immediately go to the required menu item.

At the top of the screen there is a service line, which displays the time, battery charge, and signal reception level indicator. Active connections and other data are also displayed there. By clicking on it, you can find out in more detail about what programs were downloaded, what messages and letters were received, or what files were received via Bluetooth. A separate line indicates the inclusion of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, sound, and auto-repeat screen.

To enter the menu and launch an application, you need to click on the icon located at the bottom of the screen. There is a line of four icons that are constantly displayed on the screen in any menu item. These are “Phone” (dialing and call log), “Contacts”, “Messages” and “Applications”.

The menu is presented in the form of 4x4 icons. What’s nice is that they got rid of the annoying multi-colored background, which only irritated with its brightness. Now the design has become calmer, less intrusive.

Icons move around the menu, new tables are added, and you can customize it for yourself as conveniently as possible. Applications installed by the user can be transferred in various ways (via Bluetooth, email, Wi-Fi or SMS). Folders are created in which application shortcuts are placed.

By holding down the center button, a menu of 6 recently launched applications will be displayed. Here you can go to the task manager. Active applications and information about the amount of free memory are shown. There is also useful information on how to extend your battery life.

Phone book

The general list shows contacts stored both in the phone memory and SIM card, as well as data from your Google account. You can choose among them by setting the ability to display subscribers only from the selected memory type.

By clicking the field reserved for the subscriber's picture, you can make a call, send him a message or email, and also view additional information. There are many fields allocated for it - these are various types of telephone numbers, email addresses, means of quick communication (AIM, ICQ, Gtalk, Skype and others), residential addresses and anything else (nickname, birthday automatically added to the calendar, note) .

If the subscriber is assigned an image, it will be displayed on the screen. To simplify the search, you can use the vertical line on which the alphabet is depicted. Thus, by sliding your finger over it, the letters pop up and you can quickly find your way around. There is a strip of Russian letters at the very end and a couple of Latin ones. Of course, there is also a standard search function among contacts. There is a quick call to 8 selected subscribers.

From the phone book, you can quickly call or write an SMS to a person - you just need to swipe your finger left (call) or right (message) on the line with the subscriber's name. If you click on the space reserved for the subscriber’s picture, a quick menu is called up, with the help of which you can send a message, mail, or make a phone call to the selected person. If you hold your finger on the line with the contact's name, an additional menu will open. The smartphone now has a blacklist function.

Contacts can be divided into different groups, which are assigned an individual signal. There is a Favorites tab - those contacts that are used most often are added to it. At the same time, the phone independently supplements it with those numbers to which calls are made regularly, which is convenient.

Call log

The number is dialed using a virtual keyboard. When you enter a number, the phone automatically displays on the screen the contacts stored in the device’s memory that match the numbers. Russian letters for quickly searching for subscribers did not appear on the keyboard.

You can access the call log directly from the phone book - it is highlighted in a separate tab. Call history is sorted by date. But not only them: it contains information on messages, email, IM, Facebook, MySpace and Twitter - so you can track all your activity in one list.

If desired, the amount of displayed data can be minimized or, conversely, obtain the most complete information about the events of recent days. Having selected a subscriber, you can see which calls were made and how many times - such a collapsed list is much more convenient than a long string of dialed numbers of the same type.

Messages

For SMS and MMS there is a common folder where received messages go. When sending, adding various objects to the SMS can automatically convert it into an MMS. When sending a message, the phone can display the last used numbers, thereby greatly simplifying the search for the recipient.

The message is sent both to several subscribers and to a group created in the smartphone’s memory. The device combines correspondence with subscribers into dialogues. A smartphone can automatically delete old SMS if there is no desire to store thousands of archives on the device. As you type text, you can cut, copy, and paste it. There is a set of funny android emoticons.

There are several ways to enter text.

Mini-QWERTY layout available in portrait orientation.

By turning the phone on its side, it will automatically change the displayed image, adding a QWERTY layout.

There is also an original input function (a kind of replacement for the popular T9) - it’s called Swype. Its essence is that you just need to move your finger along the layout with signs, and the device will independently generate words based on which characters were touched by the user’s hand. For clarity, during such input, a blue bar is displayed on the screen, which allows you to avoid confusion when typing text.

The function is very convenient; it automatically places spaces between words, selects words well, and most importantly, you can type text very quickly. If the word is short and a combination of several possible options is possible, then the phone will display them, then you need to choose between them yourself. You can add new words to her vocabulary.

Email

As with any other smartphone based on the Android OS, there is a separate application for Gmail, as well as another that can work with other mail servers (including Gmail).

You can create multiple email accounts, each with its own color. This is convenient because you can view mail for each mailbox separately, and display messages from all accounts in one. And it can already be seen in which of the boxes the new message arrived.

Copying and pasting text is supported. The capabilities of email clients include zooming images using your fingers - multi-touch is simple and convenient. You can change the background when viewing emails. The smartphone allows you to view files of known types attached to the letter (for example, images or office documents). When sending mail, there is a function for adding various files to attachments. For both messages and email, the font size is adjustable. The user configures the check interval, sets an alert signal or a vibration alert.

Gallery

Photos and videos stored in the device’s memory are shown here. The gallery works in both vertical and horizontal orientation. Working with files is accompanied by nice animation effects. Working with files is very fast, image previews are generated without delay. Pictures are displayed in a 2x3 or 3x2 grid, depending on the position of the device.

The preview folders contain smaller pictures, so that not 3, but 4 pictures can be placed vertically. The image opens in full screen, scaling works using multi-touch. Files can be sent via email, Bluetooth, SMS or hosted on Picasa. You can assign images as desktop wallpaper or assign them to a contact. It supports rotating images, reducing their size, and also displays additional information about a specific file. The smartphone has a built-in functional image editor.

Images are shown both in folders (for example, received via Bluetooth, photo section) and ordered by date. This makes it very convenient to view photos - there are several sections in the same folder. You can scroll either using the bar displayed at the bottom of the screen or by simply touching the screen with your fingers anywhere on it.

Player

The player's interface is simple and intuitive. A general list displays all the songs in the smartphone’s memory. There are also additional columns: Playlists (you can use both existing ones (Popular, Last listened, Last added)), and create your own, Albums, Artists, Genres, Composers, Years. 5.1 sound is supported (but only in connected headphones), the function emulates surround sound.

While music is playing, the cover specified in the file tags is displayed on the screen; if there is none, there will be a multi-colored picture instead. The volume can be changed both from the player menu using the vertical adjustment scale, and by using the side volume keys. The screen displays the name of the artist, the name of the album and the song being played. Tracks can be put on repeat (song, album, all songs) or listened to in shuffle mode. Virtual keys are used for navigation (forward, backward and pause), and you can also switch between songs by flipping through the file cover image. While listening, you can set your favorite song as a ringtone, contact or alarm.

The user has access to numerous equalizer settings. These are the following settings: Auto, Normal, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Dance, Classical, Live sound, Other (audio profile created by yourself). You can select the audio effect: Normal, Wide Range, Concert Hall, Music Clarity, Bass Boost, Externalization. There is a visualization function, but it does not go well with album covers, so it is more interesting to use it if they are not specified in the file properties.

When the screen is locked, a line is displayed at the top of the screen where the album cover, track name and virtual control keys are displayed. In addition, the player control keys are also available in a locked state. This function allows you not to unlock the screen again, but to quickly move between songs.

In terms of sound quality, the new Korean flagship is not far from its predecessor. The sound is inexpressive, and the volume control margin is small. In a noisy metro, even at the highest value, you want to add more, but there is no such option. Moreover, the music was listened to on Shure SE535 headphones, which are loud in themselves. With simpler models, such as the Bose Around-Ear, the sound was even quieter.

Radio

The receiver supports RDS, can work in the background and turn off after a set time period (30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours). The automatic search function for radio stations works. You can display your 4 favorite radio stations on your desktop and quickly switch between them.

Video

Samsung Galaxy R has support for DivX and XviD codecs, which allows you to watch most unconverted movies. The smartphone can easily play 720p movies, not to mention videos of lower quality. The video library is displayed in the form of a list with a small preview image of the film, its name and duration are also indicated. During viewing, controls may be displayed on the large screen, including rewind and pause keys, as well as a scroll bar. It helps you quickly navigate through the movie being played. While watching, you can change the screen brightness and color shades (normal, warm or cold). There is an additional image enhancement function. It's called "Outdoor Visibility," and its essence is to increase the brightness and contrast of the image, which makes it more convenient to watch movies outdoors.

From the player menu you can send the video to someone or post it for public viewing on YouTube. The function of broadcasting sound to a Bluetooth headset is supported.

Camera

5-megapixel camera, with flash and autofocus. There is no key for taking photos; the application is launched from the menu.

The interface is simple and convenient: in the upper right part there is an icon where photos are saved (to the phone memory or to a card), and the number of photos for which there is enough space to save them. Below is a large vertical key – this is the descent. Depending on the position of the phone in space, the camera interface changes from vertical to horizontal.

You can also use manual focusing - by pressing your finger on the display, the phone will focus on this place and highlight the desired object. For clarity, the process is accompanied by color: if the frame is green, focusing was successful, if it is red, it is better to repeat it again so as not to spoil the frame.

Camera settings:

Self-portrait – you can take pictures of yourself with a video call camera.

Flash mode: off, on, auto.

Shooting mode: Single shot, Beautiful face, Smile detection, Panorama, Motion shot.

White Balance: Auto, Cloudy, Daylight, Incandescent, Fluorescent.

ISO: Auto, 100, 200, 400.

Metering: center-weighted, spot, matrix.

Quality: best, excellent, normal.

Image stabilization, automatic contrast, and blink detection are enabled. Contrast, saturation and sharpness are manually adjusted. The grid and geotagging are activated.

From shooting mode, you can go to the gallery to the last received photo.

Compared to the Samsung i9100, the photos are of lower quality, the difference is noticeable. To make it easier to compare modules, you can look at the same objects taken on different phones. On the left are frames from the Samsung Galaxy R, on the right from the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Organizer

Calendar

The display type can be configured: events for a month, a week, a day, or only records are displayed. Weekdays are highlighted in white, Saturday and Sunday are highlighted in blue and red. Those dates for which any events are scheduled are additionally marked with blue dots. The current day of the week is clearly visible - a blue cursor is automatically placed on it. The user also configures the calendar depending on the day the week begins, as well as choosing a convenient display format.

When creating a new record, it is given a name, period and location. You can specify which calendar it will be synchronized with, and you can send invitations to contacts from your address book. The repetition period is set (every day, weekly, monthly, yearly). A reminder will help you not to lose sight of the recording - the alarm will go off in advance.

Watch

The smartphone allows you to save several alarms in memory. The repeat can be set either once or every day, only on weekdays or weekly. You can also set specific days. The signal melody is set, you can add a vibration alert and a text file to it. The period for the signal to be triggered again is set.

There is also a pre-alarm function. It boils down to the fact that the phone begins to make quiet sounds in advance, gradually forcing the owner of the phone to wake up. A pleasant soundtrack of nature sounds has a pleasant effect and helps you wake up in a welcoming mood.

The smartphone displays the time in different time zones.

There is a stopwatch and a timer.

The screen displays the time, date and weather forecast.

The voice recorder is simple and convenient; it saves recordings both in the phone memory and on a card. The recording time is set by the user. Maximum duration is 12 hours.

Designed as a wooden board with a sheet of paper attached, notes allow you to create notes.

You can take notes, setting their importance and a reminder that will work in advance.

The calculator works in both portrait and landscape orientation. In the latter case, more functions are available.

The smartphone runs Google search, which searches both the contents of the device and through the browser. Recent queries that were entered on the computer may also be displayed; the phone will use the account.

Music hub is a music store that does not yet operate in our country.

Readers Hub allows you to download news, books and magazines.

Game Hub is a source for a variety of games.

Android Market is necessary for every device of this class - there the user can evaluate thousands of applications and select the necessary set of applications for himself. There is a convenient search function, as well as dividing programs into categories, which greatly simplifies browsing. You can look at the reviews, evaluate the rating and express your opinion about the software. Each application is provided with a brief description and images for greater clarity. Purchased applications are displayed in a separate list, which is convenient: if you purchased a new phone, you can immediately install those programs that were previously purchased.

The application, standard for most modern devices, allows you to view videos and search among them. The application runs in full screen mode.

Allshare will help you exchange data with your computer.

Kies Air is convenient for synchronizing your device and computer. The smartphone connects via Wi-Fi, forming a connection with the PC. You can work with phone data through a browser. Everything is simple and convenient. The main advantage is that you do not need to install additional applications.

Google Talk is another tool for correspondence.

Polaris Office allows you to work with different types of files. Displays all popular office documents (Word, Excel, PDF, PPT). Editing and changing data in the text is supported. The full version of the application is easy to use and will help if you don’t have a computer at hand.

The smartphone supports voice control, but so far this function does not work with the Russian language. The application is convenient because it understands phrases in English, this allows you not to click on the screen, but to control the device with your voice (for example, type a message).

Downloads display files downloaded through the smartphone browser, the application is highlighted in a separate menu.

Weather forecast and news are useful every day.

Browser

A convenient application is used for Internet surfing. A navigation bar is displayed at the top of the screen, and to the right of it there is a shortcut that allows you to bookmark the page. The phone remembers the most visited pages and has a log of pages viewed.

The mode of working with several simultaneously open windows is supported, there is a search for words on the page, text selection, as well as a practical function for changing the screen brightness directly from the browser. Thanks to multi-touch, pages can be easily scaled (virtual keys also work to change the size of what is displayed).

The font size changes, password saving works, flash is supported. Excellent operating speed and a large screen allow you to comfortably use your smartphone to view Web pages.

GPS navigation

For navigation, Google Maps is used - standard software for all Android phones. The only drawback is that the program requires constant network activity, which affects the amount of traffic consumed by the device. Traffic jams are displayed, so the application has become fully functional and convenient not only for pedestrians, but also for car owners.

There is a function for determining the current location, calculating the route from the starting point to the ending point, and setting the method of movement: by car, on foot or public transport. The route is laid out on the map, and key places are indicated in the form of text messages, which are displayed on the screen in the form of a column; you can switch between them: view the route in advance or vice versa, go back and plot another path. Scaling works using multi-touch or virtual buttons.

The File Manager allows you to work with folders and the data stored in them. You can organize them by different types and delete contents.

Connections

The phone operates in the frequencies 850/900/1800/1900/2100 MHz.

The device has Bluetooth version 3.0, which has a very high data transfer speed (of course, with A2DP support). The Wi-Fi module with b/g/n support works great. The microUSB connector, which has become a standard, allows you to transfer data via USB 2.0 with USB On-the-go support. Copying speed remains at the level of its predecessor, about 10 MB/s. DLNA support allows you to view photos and videos wirelessly from compatible devices.

Settings

Here the user chooses the parameters that are convenient for him. Briefly about the main features.

Calls: black and white lists are activated, a response to a dropped call with a message is enabled, and a sound alert is set during a call. You can also answer a call using the mechanical key at the bottom of the screen and end it with the same action.

There are no sound profiles in the smartphone. Ringtones for calls and messages are set, signals are assigned to users and groups. The smartphone can be switched to silent mode. Alerts are also enabled for various events.

The screen design is customizable, you can select a font, set animation and select the optimal backlight level.

An interesting feature is controlling your smartphone with gestures. There are several of them, each equipped with a hint to make it easier to learn how to use.

Battery

The smartphone has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1650 mAh. According to official data, the phone should work up to 9 hours in talk mode, up to 620 hours in standby mode.

The device lasts half a day on one charge. This is the case if you actively use the device. Receive mail, communicate on social networks, listen to music and take photographs. Of course, you can try to optimize the settings, turn something off, or turn on the screen less often and look at a large and beautiful display. But I think that many users do not like this approach and charging the device a couple of times a day is not a problem.

In order to understand what you can expect in terms of operating time, several tests were carried out. The first is the maximum screen brightness, auto-sync is turned on, Wi-Fi is working, the smartphone is showing video. In this mode, the smartphone sat down in 3 hours 41 minutes.

Another option is offline mode, maximum screen brightness. In such conditions, the phone lasted 4 hours 1 minute. Thus, showing that wireless connection has little impact on autonomy in this load mode.

The last test is the minimum display brightness, offline mode, when there are no network connections. Under such conditions, the Samsung Galaxy R sat down in 5 hours and 21 minutes.

For comparison, last year's Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) worked for 6 hours and 37 minutes in offline mode and at maximum display brightness. The firmware here is 2.3.4, the other models have the same version.

Samsung Galaxy S II discharged in the same conditions after 6 hours and 21 minutes. And this was a commercial sample, the final version.

Either the gluttony of the Tegra platform, or the peculiarity of the screen, affects the operating time so much. But compared to models from the same manufacturer, the new product is clearly inferior to them in terms of operating time. In general, you should count on daylight hours when actively using smartphone functions. If you use the device less actively, you can live a whole day on one charge.

Conclusion

Once again I want to repeat that this is not the final sample that I tested. It is possible that the software will be further improved, optimization will improve, the speed and autonomy of the device will increase.

The smartphone has a loud speaker, making it convenient to talk in any environment. In addition, the loud speaker will not let you miss a call. The vibration alert is below average, rather weak.

Samsung Galaxy R is not yet on sale, but is expected to cost about 25,000 rubles. This is the cost of a certified device, official delivery. The same Samsung Galaxy S II costs about 32,000 rubles. If you wish, you can find the “white” version cheaper; it will be about 25,000 thousand, which is comparable to the starting price for the simplified version. Of course, you can also consider the “gray” market, where the current flagship smartphone from Samsung can be bought for a more attractive 20,000 rubles. Whether or not to save money when purchasing is a personal choice.

The Korean company has launched two models on the market. They are similar only on paper, on a sheet with characteristics. However, if you use both devices at the same time, you understand how different they are. Even despite the difference in price, it is the Samsung Galaxy S II that looks like a more attractive and logical solution. In the segment of expensive devices, when choosing the most functional device that will be of interest to its owner a year or even 2 later, I liked the original version more.

What's different about the Samsung Galaxy R? In terms of color rendering, its screen is very good; it produces more natural shades, while at the same time it has a colossal reserve of brightness. The quality of photos and videos here is worse. The reaction speed is slightly lower: this is noticeable when rotating the screen, when the image adapts to a new position, when launching programs, etc. Less operating time is also a significant factor. There is some metal in the case, which means the smartphone is heavier and thicker. The Samsung Galaxy S II feels better in the hand, although this is somehow unusual for such a large smartphone.

I think that a new product on another platform will be interesting only if the price difference turns out to be more significant. So far, the model can only be called an assortment solution; it does not look as attractive as the Samsung Galaxy S II, which has captured the segment of the most technologically advanced Android smartphones.

General characteristics

Type

Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to choose a telephone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone.

Almost all modern smartphones have Wi-Fi and USB interfaces. Bluetooth and IRDA are a little less common. Wi-Fi is used to connect to the Internet. USB is used to connect your phone to a computer. Bluetooth is also found in many phones. It is used to connect wireless headphones, to connect your phone to wireless speakers, and also to transfer files. A smartphone equipped with an IRDA interface can be used as a universal remote control. Glossary of terms for the category Mobile phones

Built-in GPS and GLONASS modules allow you to determine the phone's coordinates using signals from satellites. In the absence of GPS, a modern smartphone can determine its own location using signals from cellular operator base stations. However, finding coordinates using satellite signals is usually much more accurate. Glossary of terms for the category Mobile phones

Memory and processor

CPU

Modern phones and smartphones usually use special processors - SoC (System on Chip, system on a chip), which, in addition to the processor itself, houses the graphics core, memory controller, input/output device controller, etc. Therefore, the processor largely determines the set of functions and device performance.
