Modern technologies have allowed man to break down many barriers thanks to the Internet. Today, Internet networks are an integral part of our life, which makes it much easier. Ordering groceries to your home, seeing loved ones across thousands of kilometers, discovering completely new information - all this becomes possible thanks to an Internet provider. And a huge place in this is occupied by social networks, which allow you to meet and communicate with other people without leaving your room.
"VKontakte" as a popular social network
In Belarus, the popularity of this network ensured it first place among users, in Russia - second, in Ukraine - third, in Kazakhstan - fifth and twenty-eighth worldwide. Its daily audience numbers more than 40 million people. Constantly improving, changing VK settings and functions, this network is not inferior to others and creates new opportunities for its users.
VK design update
On August 1, 2016, the VKontakte social network team completed the main work on the new design, which lasted more than a year and a half, and turned it on to a limited number of users in test mode. Those 10% who agreed to test this update were pleasantly surprised, after which the new design was voluntarily and compulsorily displayed on all accounts. A lot has changed: VK settings, font, functions, general interface, etc.
Many errors were also fixed, and VKontakte began to work faster. About 2500 changes to the old design led the VK team to a completely different look from what it had for the last 10 years. Many were happy about the positive changes, but some did not accept the new design, and complaints began to pour in towards the VKontakte team. But still, such an update has become a step forward, and no one will return to what has become obsolete.
Where are the settings in VK of the new design?
Settings in the new VK are not displayed on the left, as was the case in previous versions. Anyone who paid attention to this probably suffered in their search. In the new design, VK settings can be opened as follows: the top blue panel in the right corner displays the user name and a small photo of the account, and next to it there is a small light arrow. By clicking on it, after the “My Page” and “Edit” sections, you can find the necessary settings. There were no significant changes in them. In the “General” menu, the “Page Settings” column has been supplemented with the “Accessibility” item for people who need voice acting for some account controls. VK settings still provide access to page security, privacy, notifications, blacklist, application settings, mobile services and payments.
There is no option to switch to the old VKontakte design, which means that such a function is also not provided in the settings. The VK team promises to correct all update errors if any are found. The new design gave VKontakte a new life and significantly increased the level of its work.
VK settings allow the user to fill out a profile and make certain parts of the profile inaccessible to others, ensuring the security of the account or money transfers. The debugging section hides management of linked applications, black list and notifications; here you can change the compromised password or delete the page. Basic
In the block, fill in the basic contact information:
- first name, current, maiden name;
- date of birth;
- Family status;
- hometown;
- languages you speak.
You can also indicate your relatives here. Click “Add” next to the desired degree of relationship, select a loved one from the list of friends and save.
Contacts
Mobile phones do not have to be open to everyone. Protect your numbers with privacy settings: click on the lock next to the form and choose who will see your phone numbers.
Interests
The tab contains forms for talking about your favorite music, books, games and films, main activity or hobby.
Education
Here you can indicate the institutions where you received secondary, additional or higher education. Select the desired tab, indicate the country, city and find the school or university in the generated list.
Career
“Career” is filled out in the same way. Select a country, city, enter the company name, position and years of work.
Military service
Please indicate your country of service. In the “Military unit” field, start entering the number and find the one you need in the drop-down list.
Life position
The “Life Position” section allows you to talk about a person’s worldview and position on certain issues. Users are defined with:
- Political preferences.
- Religion.
- The main thing in life and people.
- Attitude towards smoking and alcohol.
There are already answer options here, you just need to choose from those presented.

Payments and transfers
You can go to the “settings” section from any page of the VKontakte social network. In the menu on the left, select “Settings”. This menu is always shown (it is not visible only when viewing photos), regardless of whose page you are on or what section you are in.
By default, the “General” section opens. The section is indicated at the top of the page in the form of bookmarks.
"Additional services". Here, those services or buttons that are shown in the menu on the left are checked. If you remove the checkbox, the button will immediately disappear; if you add it, it will appear. The number of functions depends on which groups you are subscribed to or which applications are running. The more active the user, the more functions (that is, possible buttons) there can be.
"Wall Settings" If you check the box “Show only my posts,” then only your posts will be shown on the main page (“My Page”), the rest will disappear (those that already exist will also disappear). In the “Disable commenting on posts” item, you can accordingly disable comments on any posts on your page (but you can add posts).
"Change password". To change the password, you must enter in the first field the password you use to log into your VKontakte page. In the next two fields, enter a new password (the same password in both fields). The password must not be the same as any previous password. After filling out all the fields, click the “Change Password” button.
"E-mail address". In this section, as the name suggests, you can add your email address for various mailings, messages, alerts, notifications, and the like. So that the social network VKontakte reminds us of itself everywhere. Enter your email address and click the “Save Address” button.
After this, you need to go to the specified mailbox and confirm the binding. The letter from VKontakte will contain a link that you need to follow.
The next section is so that you can change the phone number to which the page is linked. Click “change phone number”, a window appears for entering the number. Enter your mobile number (10 digits, without code +7 or other country code) and click “Get code”.
An additional field for entering the code appears. The code arrives on the phone within a few seconds, from the number +79087590365. The code is a five-digit number (at least at this time - 09/04/2014). Enter the code in the line labeled “Confirmation code” and click “Send code.” If the code has not arrived, we will send a request to send the code again to your phone - click on the line “Send code again”.
This is a very thoughtless point from my point of view. If you don't log out of your profile in an Internet cafe, for example, then anyone can link your profile to their phone.
"Security of your page." If in the “Last activity” item you point to “just now (Russia, Chrome Browser)” (you may have a different entry), you can see the IP address of the last visit to your VKontakte page.

If you click “End all sessions”, the page will close if it is open on another computer (your page will not close).
“End all sessions” - the item just described, closes the page if it is open on other computers.
“Login confirmation” - works if you access your page from a new browser or someone else’s computer. To enter, you will need to receive a code in the form of an SMS to the cell phone to which the page is linked. Safe, but very inconvenient (except for avid conservatives and opponents of everything new). An additional disadvantage to this feature is If you forget your password, you won’t be able to recover it via your phone.. Additional information can be read by hovering over the question mark (?).
“Your page address.” The first line contains your profile number; it may be needed when restoring a page without a phone number (if the phone is lost or the SIM card is blocked, or other incidents). The second line contains the email address of your page, which can be changed. To change the address, select the text in this field, and “http://vk.com” will not be highlighted, only “id123456789” will be highlighted, the number is individual for each user. Instead of the selected text, we type your address; you can use Latin letters, numbers and the underscore “_”. If this address is not occupied, the “Occupy address...” button will appear (where your address will be instead of dots). Simple words have been occupied for a long time, there are a lot of users.
To change the address, you will need to confirm the code (the code comes via SMS, free of charge). In the confirmation window, click “Get code”. You can receive an SMS to another phone number; to do this, click “Change number” (go to).
In the line that appears, enter the received code - 5 digits, the SMS came from the sender “VKcom” and the number +79023869110.
